Cisplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapy that programs cell death, is a common treatment for mesothelioma. The FDA approved it for use in 2003, and in 2004 it was approved for use in combination Pemetrexed, which prevents the formation of both RNA and DNA (and effectively preventing cell growth).Like most chemotherapy treatments, cisplatin is administered through an IV drip. This drip usually takes between 6 and 8 hours to infuse the full dose. Usually, the surgery is repeated every few weeks over several months.
