Recent Study Indicates Chemo Treatment May Help Mesothelioma Patients

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

According to a study published in a May edition of Lung Cancer, a second course of chemotherapy may help those who have already undergone chemotherapy treatments for mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a rare form of lung cancer that is very difficult to treat that develops as a result of asbestos exposure. It spreads quickly throughout the body and is most often fatal.

The typical treatment of mesothelioma includes chemotherapy with a combination of pemetrexed and cispaltin. Very often, the first-line of treatment does not work and there is not much research into the effectiveness of second-line treatments.

Dr. Stebbing and his colleagues have begun to test the effectiveness of Vinorelbine as a second-line treatment. It is currently being used as a first-line treatment as well. According to Dr. Stebbing’s study, 10% of patients experienced a partial response. The disease stopped developing, but did not respond in 68% of patients.

Dr. Stebbing advises that further research needs to be conducted and that Vinorelbine is not an appropriate treatment for all mesothelioma patients.

Mesothelioma cancer attorneys are working to help those who have developed the disease through asbestos exposure.

Suit Filed on Behalf of Boilermaker

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a boilermaker who allegedly worked with and around asbestos during his employment.  As a result of his exposure to the fatal carcinogen, the man developed an asbestos-related disease that took his life and his family is now taking action on his behalf.  The employee reportedly filed a suit against his former employers before his death and simply received a claim.  His family then decided to take charge and filed a second suit on his behalf.  The suit has been filed against A.O. Smith Corp. in addition to 67 other companies.

According to the petition, A.O. Smith Corp., along with the other companies, knowingly manufactured and distributed products that contained asbestos. The suit accuses the defendants of being negligent for failing to test their products and properly warn their employers of the dangers linked to asbestos. The deceased worked as a general laborer and boilermaker for various employers, all of which reportedly caused him to be exposed to asbestos and eventually become ill. His family now seeks damages for his wrongful death.          If you or a loved one is suffering from an asbestos-related illness, such as mesothelioma or lung cancer, or other toxic exposure, call the attorneys at Cappolino Dodd Krebs LLP today, at 1-888-MESO-FIRM (1-888-637-6347).

59th Iron Range Mine Worker Diagnosed with Mesothelioma

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

The 59th case of mesothelioma has been discovered among the group of Iron Range miners that were exposed to asbestos.

About 72,000 miners and near-by residents of the Iron Range mine are being monitored by the Minnesota Department of Health. Last year, the miners group was matched against the cancer registry. Of the miners, there were 58 known cases of mesothelioma.

The 59th person is a newly identified case. The 58 persons diagnosed with mesothelioma had died from the disease. It is not clear if the 59th individual has also succumbed to the illness.

Mesothelioma can develop years after asbestos exposure. The rare lung cancer is almost always fatal.

Asbestos cancer attorneys are working to prevent mesothelioma and other asbestos relate illnesses. By holding negligence companies responsible for their actions, a mesothelioma attorney hopes to help those who have suffered from asbestos exposure.
