Spanish Lawsuit To Be Tried In New Jersey

More than a dozen Spanish workers are now open to sue the American company, Owens-Illinois. These 15 laborers claim they were exposed to asbestos insulating products made by Owens-Illinois while working on U.S. Navy ships stationed in Spain.

The peculiar thing about this lawsuit is that the case has to be tried in New Jersey. Because the exposure occurred on sovereign United States territory (i.e., the warships), Spanish law does not allow them to file their claim in Spain.
