Possible New Treatment for Mesothelioma
A new study published in the Journal of Translational Medicine indicates that that the combination of Piroxicam and cispaltin (CDDP) may be useful in the treatment of mesothelioma.
The study indicates that the combination of the two drugs can trigger a cell cycle regulation in different mesothelioma cells, which could prevent the spread of mesothelioma and help treat the disease.
The two drugs have a synergistic effect when combined that warrants continued study.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have shown promise in preventing and treating mesothelioma, since it is assumed that asbestos causes the cancer through prolonged irritation and inflammation.
Piroxicam, and other NSAIDs, have shown significant promise in anti-turmoral activity, particularly when it is in combination with CDDP.
Mesothelioma is a rare lung cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma attorneys are working to prevent negligent exposure to asbestos that can result in the fatal disease.
